What Annapolis does to a window
Annapolis glass takes salt from more directions than people expect. Eastport, Bay Ridge, Annapolis Roads and Hillsmere face the Severn, Spa Creek and the open Bay, and a northeast wind in a nor'easter pushes a brackish haze blocks inland, heaviest in the fall and spring storm seasons when the tide comes up over City Dock. Boat traffic on Spa Creek and Back Creek adds an exhaust film to anything facing the water, and the old sash windows in the Historic District and Murray Hill sweat on cold mornings and hold grime between the storm panes.
Winter brings the other salt. Route 50, Forest Drive and the downtown streets are brined before every storm, and the spray from passing traffic lands on the lower glass of any house near a main road and dries into a white crust that rain does not rinse off. Then comes April, when the oaks and tulip poplars over West Annapolis, Wardour, Admiral Heights and the Neck drop yellow pollen on every pane for six weeks, followed by a humid Bay summer that grows mildew in the shaded corners of the frames.

How often should windows be cleaned in Annapolis?
Homes under the oaks in West Annapolis, Wardour, Admiral Heights and Murray Hill do well every quarter, which keeps pollen, road brine and mildew from building up. Homes in Eastport, Bay Ridge, Hillsmere, Annapolis Roads or on the Severn do better every two months because of salt off the water. Most people have the inside glass done once a year.
Do you work in the gated communities?
Yes. We work in Sherwood Forest, Epping Forest and Chesapeake Harbour, and in the Eastport and downtown condo buildings with front-desk or fob access. Just add us to your gate list or tell us the procedure when you book.
Can you remove hard water spots from sprinklers?
In most cases, yes. Mineral spots from sprinkler overspray need a dedicated treatment rather than regular cleaning. Tell us about them on the quote form and we will look at them on the first visit.
